By contrast, the Dominion was a young nation, scarcely a two centuries out of its home system, ambitious and irreverent. Whereas the Aeternum was incalculably ancient, an antique ascendency mightier than the eldest of the Fallen Empires satisfied with their possession of the galactic core, the Aeternites had long scorned the remainder of the galaxy. The two civilizations were, in some regards, inherently opposite.
